It’s Friday and even if you are not a slut, maybe have a solo session. You’ve earned it.

Literally everyone loves to hate the song “Friday” by Rebecca Black. People hate it so much that the poor young lady has been bullied about it in real life. That’s not ok! What’s wrong with you people?

Rather than resort to violence, just make a YouTube video. Bart Baker claims on his YouTube channel that this is not a burn on Rebecca Black but we’ll let you be the judge.

The song is so terrible that even this parody making fun of the song is not listenable. If you make it passed the 1:00 mark than you are truly a wacky person and we are proud to have you as a listener. If not, thanks for trying.

By the way, if your daughter is too much of a slut for your taste, turn her on to FunHouse Radio. There is a good chance that her chastity will return after just 24 hours of listening.

Today is National Super Hero Day! Caped crusaders, masked vigilantes, mutants, guardians, and immortal gods are all celebrated on National Superhero Day. The folks at Marvel created this yearly celebration back in 1995. Supervillains are not included.

If you are a cosplayer, today is the day to rock those tights!

Prince was involved in the promotion of Tim Burton’s Batman movie in 1989. Prince created an album based on the movie, but only one song was actually used in the movie, and for only a short time.

The video for “Batdance” is funky and strange. It should have been used an overture for the movie that appeared before the movie begins. Sadly this was not the case.

I would really like to know what went wrong. What didn’t they put much more of Prince’s music in the movie? If you know why let us know in the comments.

“Children’s Story” by Slick Rick

This is a classic hip-hop track that I listened to as a kid back in the day. The idea that this is a story for children is a bit tongue in check. This is not Mother Goose. Kids living in tough neighborhoods, like I did, would need to hear this kind story. Other kids? I don’t know.

Listen closely near the end. You’ll hear a slowed down scream followed by a “yeah”. They become part of the rhythm and mimic a call and response vocal. These are samples from a classic James Brown record. Indeed they are the same samples used on “It Takes Two” by MC Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock.

Today is National Tell A Story Day. I can’t think of another track that is more appropriate. The official music video here does not track with the lyrics but it’s fun watch.

Is there a story you need to tell somebody today? Get to it.

“Surfin’ Bird” by The Radioactive Chickenheads

John James Audubon was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He is remembered for his extensive studies of American birds. He made detailed illustrations of birds in natural habitats. Audubon’s The Birds of America is considered by many to be the finest ornithological work of all time.

The dude was born on April 26, 1785 and so National Audubon Day occurs on April 26 every year. It’s not a bad time to do a little bird watching.

The strange thing is that a group of people now believe (or pretend to believe) that birds are not real.

Taylor Lorenz (NY Times) reports, “In Pittsburgh, Memphis and Los Angeles, massive billboards recently popped up declaring, ‘Birds Aren’t Real.’ On Instagram and TikTok, Birds Aren’t Real accounts have racked up hundreds of thousands of followers, and YouTube videos about it have gone viral. … Adherents even protested outside of Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco to demand that the company change its bird logo.”

“The events were all connected by a Gen Z-fueled conspiracy theory, which posits that birds don’t exist and are really drone replicas installed by the U.S. government to spy on Americans. Hundreds of thousands of young people have joined the movement, wearing Birds Aren’t Real T-shirts, swarming rallies and spreading the slogan.”

So yeah. The song of the day is “Surfin’ Bird” as covered by one of our favorite currently active touring groups, Radioactive Chicken Heads. The song has not been officially released yet. We currently feature the version by The Ramones on the live stream.

I really love the visuals in this video. It’s a cluckin’ great time!

“Pets” by Porno For Pyros, LIVE on Howard Stern

The last Sunday in April is National Pet Parent’s Day. Do you have any pets? Do you consider them a member of the family? What if you were the pet? What if an Extra-terrestrial being with a higher intelligence decided to have you as a pet?

The legendary Perry Farrell pontificates on this very situation in this song. It’s a classic Gen-X top-40 rock song for sure but unlike most of the other songs in that category, this one is not about doom, apathy or emotional pain. It’s not even sarcastic.

Perry and the group played a live acoustic version of the song on the Howard Stern Show back in 1997.

“Miau Miau” by Stereo Total on The Network Awesome Show

How is it that we first hear a woman speaking English with a thick French accent and then she starts singing in perfect German? Stereo Total were a duo from Berlin. Françoise Cactus was raised in France before relocating to Berlin in the 1980s. Sadly she died of breast cancer in 2021. The other half of the duo, Brezel Göring is apparently from Berlin.

Of course today is another #Caturday and this song is apparently about cat behavior but I think it’s really a metaphor about a cheating lover. We play the album version of the song on our live stream all the time. Love this!

Both played a number of different instruments during their time as a group. They switched between and blended many different genres, but here we have them sounding something like The White Stripes with a stripped down garage-rock drum, vocal, and guitar performance.

This live performance was recorded in July of 2012 for a European TV show. MEOW!

NSFW – “TANG (Never Went To The Moon)” by Jimi James

It’s hard to find something funny to be the song of the day for Earth Day, but I think we’ve got it!

Jimi James is a Flat-earther. This video is designed to convince the public that The Earth is flat. Don’t confuse him with legendary producer Jimmy Jam.

The orange flavored sugar drink named “Tang” was used by early NASA crewed space flights. In 1962, John Glenn conducted eating experiments in orbit. Tang was on the menu. It was then used on other missions.

Jimi James would beg to differ. He also wants to remind us that “tang” is a vulgar slang word for vagina.

By the way, the astronaut seen on the image above is Buzz Aldrin, the second person to set foot on the moon. He thinks Tang sucks.

“Bananaphone” by Raffi

Yes, you can buy a telephone that is in the shape of a banana. A quick google search reveals dozens of devices, covers and props.

Today is National Banana Day. We all love them here at FunHouse Radio. As a small child, I could be spotted with one frequently because my grandmother constantly fed them to me. My friends would tease me about it. They would call me names like “Banana Boy”.

The song called “Banana Phone” has been recorded at least a dozen times. Here is the most well-known of all the versions. It’s by Raffi and was recorded in 1994. There does not appear to be an official music video, but here is a fan-made lyric-video! We play this track on the live audio stream all the time!

Happy National Banana Day!
