Songs About Food – A Delicious Menu of Music – Don’t Look if You’re on a Diet!

Welcome to The FunHouse Diner. Here’s our menu. It’s all food for the soul, really. Take your time perusing. We have many great options for you to consider. My name is Wacky Alex and I’ll be your server today. Can I get you started with a beer or wine song?

We asked our social media communities to come up with songs about food. They delivered, big time! There were so many submissions that we needed to establish some rules to create this menu of music.

  1. No commercial jungles
  2. The song must actually be about real food that people eat. This does not include what animals, zombies, cartoon witches or monsters eat.
  3. No metaphors. No songs that just mention food but are really about something else entirely.
  4. Candy is not food but cookies and pastries are.
  5. Only one song per artist.

If you have more ideas for this menu, feel free to leave a comment.

“Eat It” by Weird Al Yankovic – Music Video Gets 4K Scan & Remaster – It’s EPIC – No Wonder Michael Jackson Did a Parody Called “Beat It”

Thanksgiving doesn’t have enough songs to mark the occasion. We’ve decided this year that Weird Al’s “Eat It” should be officially canonized as an unofficial Thanksgiving song.

Here we have a stunning 4K scan and remaster. The audio, on the other hand, suffers from some destructive remastering. We’ll take the first press of the LP over that any day.

The owner of the video has disabled third-party embedding but you can watch it on youtube. It’s 4K so put it on full screen! The levels seem off though. You might need to adjust brightness.

That thing about “Beat It” was just a joke. It’s a reference to the Al’s new movie Weird. If you haven’t seen it, it’s free on the Roku Channel. Go see it!

“Addicted To Spuds” by Weird Al Yankovic – LIVE on MTV’s New Year’s Eve Party 1987 – A Parody of “Addicted To Love” by Robert Palmer

First off let me just say that today is National Potato Day. Personally I love potatoes. I like them prepared any which way. If it has potato in it, I’ll eat it. I’ll probably like it too. When I was a kid my Grandma made me the best potato pancakes on earth.

Yes I love the tuber but I am not ready to admit it. I am NOT “Addicted to Spuds”.

This track first appeared on Weird Al’s 1986 release, Polka Party. There is no official music video for it but Al did perform the song live many times. His 1980s performances featured a back up band of giant Mr Potato Heads.

There are a few instances of this on YouTube. All of them are low quality recordings. The audio on this is terrible but the performance is keen. Luckily someone found this on a VHS tape and uploaded it.

“Sucking On A Chili Dog” parody of “Jack & Diane” by John Mellencamp

Hell yeah! It’s National Chili Dog Day. What most people call a “Detroit-style” chili dog, is called a “Coney-Dog”, “Coney” or even “Coney Island” by Detroiters themselves.

This style of hot dog was actually created by Greek immigrants that were living in Detroit after having spent a a little while in New York City and visiting the amusement park called Coney Island. They borrowed the name from New York but invented the now ubiquitous chili dog in downtown Detroit.

A proper Detroit-style chili dog uses a ground beef based chili with no beans. It’s really just spiced up ground beef to be honest. Then you add chopped raw onions and mustard. That’s it. That’s a chili dog. FunHouse Radio hopes you get to suck on one today. And if you are ever in Detroit try the American Coney Island restaurant. I’d say they have the last word on the subject.

This goofy parody song has been done by a number of people. A guy named Tom McGovern got a lot of press about his version. The one embedded on this page appears to be the original but it is not the original upload. The original upload may have been taken down because of copyright issues. At this point the creator is unknown.

If you would like to try to make these or yourself, here is a recipe.

“The All Chicken Restaurant” by Art Paul Schlosser

In his own words, “It’s a song I wrote for my 67 songs in less than 67 Minutes which is a song about a restaurant that everything taste like Chicken”.

Today is National Fried Chicken Day! So if you are allowed to eat fried chicken, have a great time! We’re going to eat some nuggets from the air fryer.

You might have heard us playing this goofy little ditty on the air.

“Istanbul (not Constantinople)” by They Might Be Giants

Hooray!! It’s National Falafel Day! Nearly every Turkish restaurant (outside of Türkiye) offers this delicious fried chic-pea dish. Conversely, people living in Türkiye do not frequently consume the dish. It’s not really a Turkish food. Unlike in The Middle East, Falafel is not served as street food in The Republic.

The City of Istanbul was once called Constantinople. Türkiye was formerly known as Turkey. Now it’s Türkiye not Turkey. Why did Turkey get the works?

The version by They Might Be Giants appeared on the album Flood which was released in 1990. It also appeared in an episode of Tiny Toon Adventures.

The song was first made famous in 1953 by The Four Lads.

The most recognizable landmark in The City of Istanbul would be the Haga Sofia. Below is a photo I found from “7 Interesting Facts About Haga Sofia“. First it was a Church then a Mosque. Then it became a Museum and then a Mosque again. They switch things up a lot.

What food do you eat that has been wrongly lumped in with a certain culture’s cuisine? Tell us about it in the comments.

“Cheese Roll Call” by Pinky & The Brain

Celebrate National Cheese Day with this classic cartoon and song from Pinky & The Brain. Pinky points out that there are so many different kinds of cheeses in the world that it’s actually quite bizarre.

The song itself is sung to the tune of “Semper Fidelis”, the official march of the United States Marine Corps.

Do you hanker for a hunk of cheese? What are your favorites? Let us know in the comments.

“Picnic In The Summertime” by Deee-Lite

June 1st is considered the first day of meteorological summer in North America. I think we could all use a picnic with a chill vibe right now. With DJ Towa switched out for ANI, we have a sequenced track in the style of 1970s classic soul.

The music and the video are as innocent as it gets. Let’s have a peaceful summer this year.

Picnic In The Summertime was released as a single and I have the CD version. If you wan’t a sealed copy on vinyl, it’s $60 and up on ebay.

What is your favorite unique thing to bring to a picnic? Let us know in the comments.
